How it started
SDM Dev grew out of timber frame design practice. Counting lumber cutting by hand in spreadsheets took hours and still did not match what happened on site — that is how the first prototype of the add-in appeared.
Today Lumber Optimizer is a finished tool that reads a Revit model, computes the cutting layout with three algorithms and produces lists ready to hand over to production. The “recommended cutting” formula came from real project numbers, not from a textbook.
We build software we use ourselves. Every feature exists because it is needed in the work, not because it looks good on a feature list.
What we believe
The engineer knows better
A tool should not argue with the designer. It calculates; the human decides.
Honest numbers
We show not only the perfect layout but the realistic one — the result you actually get on site.
Nothing extra
No clouds, no accounts, no telemetry for the sake of telemetry. The add-in does its job and stays out of the way.
